The International Orientation Programme will help you settle in during your first few days at University.

Who is it for?

The International Orientation Programme is open to non-EU and EU students.

Note: if you are an Erasmus or exchange student, you will be invited to a different orientation.

When is it?

This year’s event took place on 17 and 18 September. However, if you missed those dates you can find videos and resources under the activities and talks below. You can also watch the main welcome for international students studying on a Tier 4 visa and advice for EU/EEA and Swiss nationals.

For those students joining us from February 2021, further details about welcome events will be released by January 2021.

Activities and talks

You will be able to register with the University, become familiar with the campus, including Guildford and the surrounding area. You will have the opportunity to socialise with other new international students and learn about life in the UK through a series of social events, trips, workshops and talks.

Register early for your course, collect your campus card and get assistance with registering at a local GP (doctor).

We know that studying in a different country can be exciting, but also challenging at the same time. The workshop will address these challenges and identify the academic support available to you.

If you weren’t able to attend, watch a learning development presentation by the team.

These campus tours are an excellent opportunity for you to see the facilities and services that we offer here at the University. The tours will be guided by a student ambassador who can answer questions about student life and their experiences of learning at Surrey.

If you weren’t able to attend, watch a video tour of Stag Hill campus.

Get to know the town you are studying in by attending a guided walk of Guildford, discovering its history and architecture.

If you missed the tour, watch a video tour of Guildford.

Get advice on how to open a UK bank account, working while you study and paying tax as well as practical tips on how to make the most of your money and take advantage of the many discounts available in the UK.

Watch a recording of the talk.

Take part in this challenging and fun treasure hunt that will help you discover every corner of your new campus.

Take a guided walk around Guildford to find the places we know are most important for newly arriving international students including banks, ethnic supermarkets and other key locations.

The walk will end at Guildford Post Office where you’ll get assistance in collecting your Biometric Residence Permit.
