New students checklist
Attend main registration and collect your student ID card
It’s important to collect your student ID card before commencing your course. This completes the registration process and ensures you are officially enrolled as a student at the University.
Attend your welcome events
To ensure that we can maintain social distancing, lots of welcome events will take place online via live streams, or via on-demand content. We will still be giving you a lot of opportunities to have fun and meet other students though!
Get your Surrey Sports Park membership
If you are into sport and fitness then you will love Surrey Sports Park! Grab a discounted student membership for access to the gym, swimming pool, fitness classes and all of our Team Surrey clubs.
Set up a bank account
You can set up a bank account by visiting or booking an appointment with a local bank branch. Try to do this as soon as possible, as a lot of students will be opening their accounts during the first few weeks of term.
Register with a doctor
When you arrive at Surrey we recommend that you register with a local doctor. The University works closely with the NHS to ensure that there is support and advice available to help you register with a GP when you arrive for your course.
Explore the campus
We always recommend new students to take some time to explore the campus and beyond. You will be able to see what facilities we have which you can take advantage of.
Get familiar with MySurrey Hive
This is your dedicated place for help and support on campus. If you have any question or queries about university life then visit the Hive to speak to our friendly advisers or peer supporters. When you join us you will be able to find University staff who can guide you around campus and lend a hand while you find your feet!
Visit the Thursday Market
Every Thursday you will find a fruit and vegetable market on the Stag Hill campus. It can be found in Rubix (Students’ Union) and even hosts stalls selling hot food from around the world and fresh bread and cakes.
Attend the Freshers’ Fair
Discover a dynamic range of sports clubs, societies, volunteering opportunities, events and activities to get involved with at Surrey, hosted by your Students’ Union. Meet other like-minded students, as well as picking up plenty of freebies along the way. This is the best way to round off your week!
Visit your Students’ Union
The Students’ Union is about so much more than just nights out. Head down to the Students' Union to say hello to your union officers, who are there to support and represent you. They are very friendly and always happy to say hi!
